About Daniel

My Work

My name is Daniel Wyzynski and I am a Clinical and Organizational Ethicist working at the intersection of healthcare practice, research ethics, and policy development. With a background in philosophy and health sciences, my work focuses on navigating complex ethical challenges in clinical care, supporting values-based decision-making, and strengthening ethical infrastructure across healthcare systems.

In my clinical role I provide ethics consultation and education across diverse hospital programs, helping teams, patients, and families address questions of consent, capacity, moral distress, and end-of-life decision-making. I also serve as a member to Western's Health Science Research Ethics Board, where I support ethical oversight in clinical and health systems research.

My academic research explores how healthcare policies and institutional practices impact ethical decision-making, particularly in the areas of pediatric mental health and caregiver support. I’m committed to bridging theory and practice to ensure that ethical reflection informs not only bedside care, but also the systems and structures that shape it.

Whether through clinical consultation, education, or policy analysis, my goal is to promote ethical practices that are responsive, inclusive, and grounded in the lived realities of those receiving and delivering care.

About Clinical Ethics

What is an ethicist?

Clinical ethics is a field of applied ethics that supports patients, families, and healthcare providers in navigating complex and often value-laden decisions in healthcare. It involves identifying, analyzing, and addressing ethical questions that arise in clinical practice. Common issues are often related to consent, capacity, end-of-life care, resource allocation, and cultural or religious considerations.

Clinical ethicists help clarify values, interpret relevant policies and laws, and facilitate respectful dialogue among stakeholders to support morally sound and patient-centered decision-making. Ultimately, clinical ethics aims to promote integrity, compassion, and fairness in the delivery of healthcare.

An ethicist is a professional trained in ethical theory and practical reasoning who helps individuals and organizations navigate complex moral questions. In healthcare, clinical ethicists draw on philosophy, law, and clinical experience to support decision-making in ethically challenging situations. They work collaboratively with patients, families, and healthcare teams to clarify values, explore options, and identify ethically justifiable paths forward. Beyond individual cases, ethicists contribute to policy development, education, and organizational practices that promote ethical standards across systems. Their role is not to impose decisions, but to create space for thoughtful reflection and to guide processes that respect both individual rights and collective responsibilities.
